Pigeon rescued by fire crews forced to wade through River Stour in Canterbury

Firefighters waded into the River Stour in Canterbury city centre this afternoon to rescue a pigeon which had become trapped in netting.

They were called by staff from the Ask restaurant, who had found the bird caught in fine netting covering a window overlooking the river.

A crew from Canterbury fire station went to the scene with an RSPCA officer at about 3.10pm.

Two firefighters had to get into the water to reach the distressed bird.

They managed to release it within a few minutes and it was handed over to the RSPCA inspector, who took the bird away to be checked over.
