Nearly 20 firefighters battled a blaze at a wood yard which lit up the sky over Throwley, near Faversham last night.

The fire started in two stacks of timber at the yard in Oast Lane shortly before 10pm and spread to an outbuilding which was badly damaged.

Two crews from Faversham and a retained crew from Chilham fought the flames and some firefighers remained at the scene damping down until the morning. The cause is unknown but being investigating.
