Fitness and nutrition guru Joe Wicks has delighted youngsters by visiting a primary school near Canterbury.

Wicks, a fitness coach, TV presenter and author who goes by the alias The Body Coach, spent the afternoon at Sturry CE Primary School on Tuesday.

He visited the school in his role as schools ambassador for BBC Children in Need.

He met and spent time with pupils, learning about the work they are doing to fund raise for the charity, before delivery a fun-filled HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout for children and teachers.

Speaking after his visit on Tuesday, Wicks said: “Today has been so much fun, and it’s been absolutely brilliant to see how Sturry CE Primary School are getting involved with this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal.

"There was such a buzz throughout the school, whether it was the kids or the teachers themselves - who were just as keen to get involved.

"Not only did it make the mini workout even more enjoyable, it reminded me just how much I’m looking forward to the Big Morning Move this Friday."

Sturry Primary is one of 10 schools Wicks has visited during a tour this month, which is culminating with a live workout tomorrow (November 15), on BBC Children in Need's 2019 appeal day.

The "Big Morning Move" workout will be live-streamed to schools across the country, where children will be encouraged to get involved.

"If your school hasn’t signed up, there’s still time," said Wicks. "It’s going to be an amazing start to an amazing day - let’s all get together and get active to raise as much as we can for BBC Children in Need."

Sturry CE Primary School head teacher Jo Murray added: "It’s been such a pleasure welcoming Joe Wicks into our school.

"There has been such a sense of excitement in the run-up to his visit from pupils and staff alike.

"We take real pride in getting together and supporting BBC Children in Need, and Joe’s visit has made us all the more determined to do what we can to raise vital funds for the charity this year.

"On behalf of us all, we want to say a big thank you to Joe and wish him all the best for the remainder of the tour and his Big Morning Move."

Children in Need currently funds 44 projects across Kent, with a value of more than £2.9m.
