Motorway crash on M2 between Sittingbourne and Faversham sparks huge queues

All lanes have reopened after a crash on a motorway which saw a car overturn sparking gridlock.

Traffic was held for more than an hour between junctions five and six of the M2 near Faversham this afternoon after the collision.

Commuters are being warned to expect delays of about an hour as congestion clears following the incident.

Police, ambulances and firefighters had been in attendance, and there are six miles of congestion building up on the route.

Pictures show seven cars on the hard shoulder alongside emergency services as they worked on the scene.

National Highways wrote on X: “Traffic has been released and all lanes are now open on the M2 eastbound between J5 Sittingbourne and J6 Faversham following the earlier collision.

“[Expect] delays of 60 minutes and approx. six miles of congestion remain on approach, please allow time for these to ease.”
