KENT face possibly their toughest challenge of the limited overs season this Sunday when they take on a "pub side" from Maidstone.
Lashings, county-town club named after the wine bar where the club was founded have once again managed to assemble a world-class squad for this year’s Titans of Kent Challenge match at St Lawrence, Canterbury.
Lashings’ chairman David Folb and skipper Richie Richardson have, for the first time, signed up a quartet of Pakistani stars in Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram and Inzamam Ul Haq.
Apart from Richardson, there is a also huge Caribbean influence in Test players Jimmy Adams, Stuart Williams, Junior Murray and Sherwin Campbell, while Zimbabweans Stuart Carlisle and Grant Flower will not be content to just make up the numbers.
“We put out a weakened side against the Kent Cricket Board last weekend and crushed them by six wickets, so Kent could be in for a tough time,” said Mr Folb.
“There’s no doubt in my mind who the premier club in Kent are and we will come down to Canterbury this weekend and prove it.”
Last year’s clash with Lashings attracted one of Kent’s best one-day crowds of the summer, so club officials are recommending supporters get to the ground well before the 1pm start. Admission costs £12 for adults and £8 concessions.
