Former Whitstable Town boss Marc Seager has not ruled out a shock return to the Belmont but believes he is not the man wanted by the club’s board to fill the vacant manager’s post.
The 39-year-old stepped down as Town manager in 2009 and since then Whitstable have seen three managers fill the hot seat at the Belmont.
Following Peter Nott’s resignation nearly two weeks ago, the club have received 25 applications for the job, including one or two "stand-outs".
The club are looking to draw up a shortlist of five at a committee meeting next week.
Seager (pictured), who led Whitstable to the Kent League title in 2006/2007 and became the first Town boss to take the club into the Ryman League, is ready to return after more than two years out of football. However, the former Sittingbourne and Deal Town player is yet to be contacted about the post and has explained why he will not be applying.
He said: "If the right job was to come along I would go for it. Football is in my blood but to be honest I’m not the man they want, I’ve not had any contact with the club."
He added: "I’ve heard rumours they have spoken to managers already at clubs to see if they are interested, so if I was in their plans I’m sure the chairman and vice-chairman would have been in contact to see what I was up to."
When asked whether he would be interested if contacted, Seager said: "It’s Whitstable Town Football Club. They have a massive place in my heart, I loved playing there and managing there."
Whitstable chairman Joe Brownett confirmed that Seager had not applied but welcomed interest from the former boss. He said: "I don’t know Marc’s situation. If Marc thought he would be interested and he applied, I’m sure people would look at it. I wouldn’t say it was out of the question. We’ve always got a soft spot for Marc, so who knows?"
