Those dependant on essentials from a food bank are now being given free face masks in their parcels.
Canterbury Food Bank, which has seen a surge in demand during the coronavirus crisis, continually supports city residents on little or no income.
From tomorrow (Friday), it will be mandatory to wear face coverings in shops - anyone not doing so could be hit with a £100 fine.
Therefore, to help those struggling to afford the essential items, the charity is now placing reusable masks in amongst its food parcels.
Food bank co-ordinator Angela Gardiner said: “The money saved could go towards an outstanding bill or other expense.
“The face coverings are reusable, so their use will cut down on single use masks.
“Because of what we do we are in a good position to be able to get these face masks to people who most need them.
“Not having a face mask could create a barrier to getting out and about, because without one people will be barred entry from some places.”
Anyone who wishes to donate face masks should contact info@canterburyfoodbank.org.
