German Doner Kebab has confirmed it is opening a new store in Canterbury this month, creating 25 jobs.
The restaurant chain, also known as GDK, is taking up residence in the former Game unit on the fringes of Whitefriars, next to KFC.
Permission to turn the high street site behind the clocktower into a food store was secured three months ago.
Game is now preparing to set up in the Sports Direct store in Sturry Road.
GDK prides itself on offering “game-changing” kebabs made using premium, lean meats and fresh local vegetables.
The chain has branches across the world, and is expanding in a number of areas across the UK.
It has a strong presence in London, but so far has just one other Kent store, in Maidstone.
Golam Rabbi, GDK’s operations manager, said: “We are delighted to be bringing German Doner Kebab to Canterbury.
“We’ve been looking for the perfect site for a while, and the unit on St George’s Street is a great fit for us.”
“We’re looking forward to welcoming new customers for takeaway and delivery initially, and for a sit-down meal when restrictions permit.
“We hope German Doner Kebab will offer families and groups of friends something new and different – delicious, fresh, healthy kebabs, with something on the menu for everyone to enjoy.”
The new restaurant is due to open for takeaway and collection at the end of this month. A specific date has not yet been given.
Beef and chicken used in the kebabs are imported from Germany. Nachos, burgers and wraps are also set to be on the menu.
