Girl has bag snatched in city centre

A teenager had her bag snatched by a man who tried to befriend her.

The theft happened in Monastery Street, Canterbury, at around 11am on Friday, June 3, although details have only just been released by police.

The 18-year-old girl said she was walking with two friends when a man approached them and began speaking to them.

After a few minutes it’s claimed the man grabbed the woman’s bag and ran off.

The girl’s friends and two passers rand after him and the man dropped the bag.

It was returned to the 18-year-old and nothing had been stolen from it.

The man was not caught. He is described as being, white, in his mid-thirties, of slim build with stubble and brown hair. He was wearing a navy hooded top with a stripe, navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Police want to speak with the two-passers by who helped the woman.
