ORGANISERS of the Save Canterbury Cathedral appeal are hoping a small gift from every adult in Kent will make their Christmas.
They are asking everyone to donate £1 on Friday, December 15, which they estimate could boost the restoration fund by £1million.
The global appeal, launched in October, is trying to raise £50million for major restoration work to the building which is said to be in danger of crumbling away.
UK fund-raising director Heather Gambrell said: "As people think of buying Christmas presents for their loved ones, we are asking them to also think of Canterbury Cathedral.
"One pound is just the price of a roll of wrapping paper or three mince pies. They could perhaps think of it as a Christmas present for future generations.
"There are over a million people in Kent aged over 18. The maths are straightforward. If everyone gave just a £1 on December 15, we would raise £1 million."
There several ways to make donations – on-line at www.canterbury-cathedral.org, at any Kent branch of Lloyds TSB, with a credit or debit card by telephoning 01227 865346, at Canterbury Cathedral or by sending cheques made payable to Canterbury Cathedral Development Ltd, Freepost, RRB-GYXR-JTRB.
