A colourful parade saw witches, warlocks and mystics cast a spell on Canterbury.

The biggest Goddess Parade in Kent took place in the city on Sunday.

Performers from all over the UK turned up for the event, which included a drumming procession through the streets to the Westgate Hall for a mystic fair and various arts and crafts workshops.

Among the memorable characters and lively dancing were the White Elk Woman, who unravels the mysteries of the crystal skulls, and the priestess Avalon,

who is otherwise known as Pammie Couchman.

Mystic belly-dancer Electra -Rachel Mayatt who runs the Goddess Circle in Canterbury - performed one of her routines.

Festival organiser Matthew Callow said: “We had a fantastic response – so much

so that we plan to move the event from Deal to Canterbury next year.

“A lot more people joined in than I expected.”

He added: “Canterbury may be the centre of Christianity but we live in a multi-faith society and are free to practice paganism.

“We are not out to offend anyone.”
