Dave Mathews scored a 77th-minute winner as Canterbury men’s 1sts beat West Herts 5-4 in the National Cup second round on Sunday.
The East Men’s League hosts went ahead after 11 minutes, but Huw Stevens and then Martin Sutherland turned the tie in Canterbury’s favour with two goals in three minutes.
The first-half action didn’t end there, though, as the home side struck twice, the second goal in the final minute, to go into the half-time break 3-2 ahead.
The second half belonged to Mathews, pictured, and a quickfire double gave Canterbury the lead once more. West Herts hit back with their fourth goal, but Mathews’ late strike clinched the visitors a dramatic victory.
