A couple have tied the knot with a generous gesture to a cause close to their hearts.

Because instead of inviting the traditional gifts of goodies for their home, Philip and Sally Moore asked their guests to make a donation to the British Heart Foundation.

The couple are supporting the charity’s Saving Lives in Kent Appeal which is trying to raise £25,000 to provide heart defibrillators for Kent Police to carry in emergency response vehicles and at other community locations.

Philip, 60, from Shatterling near Wingham, who works as a community engagement manager for a charity, is acutely aware of their value.

He has suffered three heart attacks and on last occasion his life was saved by a defibrillator.

The couple were married recently at St Nicholas church in Ash and held their reception at Staple village hall.

Sally, 52, who is an accountant for a local farm, said: “At our age we’ve got all the things we need for our home and when we heard about the appeal thought it would be good to ask our guests to support it.

“They were very generous and donated £800 which is nearer £1,000 with gift aid and nearly enough to but one defibrillator.”

Kim Brophy the Kent Defibrillator appeal manager for the BHF, said: “We are extremely grateful Sally and Phillip. It is extremely generous of them to donate what would have been their own wedding gifts. We are well on our way to reaching our target of £25,000 within the year and hope to be announcing our success very soon.”
