A schoolboy suffered a painful double leg break when he was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver on a pedestrian crossing in Canterbury.
Noh Alnour, 14, was making his way home when he was struck by a black BMW which failed to stop in St Stephen's Road.
The teenager was taken to the QEQM hospital in Margate, where x-rays revealed his right leg was broken in two places.
He needed surgery to remove a piece of bone from his cartilage, and is now in a thigh-high plaster cast.
It is a devastating blow for the Simon Langton pupil, who could now miss out on a GCSE school trip to Barcelona.
The incident, which is being investigated by police, happened at about 6.30pm on Friday as Noh walked to his home in nearby Market Way.
A witness said the driver was a woman and the nearside wing mirror of the BMW was left at the scene of the collision.
Noh's mother, Toni, who works at the Concorde International language school in Canterbury, said: "Everyone who has heard about this is horrified because the driver must have realised they had caused injury to a child, or even worse.
"Noh is understandably very upset because he may now miss a school GSCE trip to Barcelona, for which he'd been doing a paper round to save up money.
"And he won't be able to take part in sports like football, basketball and boxing with his friends for some time.
"It will also affect his preparations for his Duke of Edinburgh awards because he may have to abandon them if he can't complete his voluntary work as a river warden.
"But he is trying to stay positive and, I guess, it could have been far worse."
A police spokesman said they were alerted to the incident by ambulance crews.
"The pedestrian, a teenage boy, was treated for his injuries at the scene before being taken to a local hospital for further medical attention," they added.
"The car did not stop at the scene but the driver contacted Kent Police later on the same evening.
"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."
