MASSIVE plans for St Mildred's Tannery site in Rheims Way at Canterbury have been submitted to the city council. The project would include 404 homes, 11 converted flats, shops and leisure facilities as well as an 80 bed hotel and 400 car parking spaces.
Planning consultants Llewelyn Davies have been working on the plan for the brownfield site with developer Bellways. Associate Linda Aitken said: "It will be a new urban quarter for the city and provide a range of houses for the community, including sheltered housing and two and three-bedroom homes.
"It will have good connections and a footpath will run along the river. It will be pedestrian friendly and link up with Grey Friars Gardens and Stour Street."
Mrs Aitken said the buildings along Rheims Way were designed to curve round like the old city walls, and everything had been designed to frame the stunning views of the Cathedral. A spokesman for Canterbury City Council Rob Davies said: "This is obviously a major application which the council will consider very carefully.
"There will be widespread public consultation and people can see the plans by visiting the council offices during opening hours.
"The deadline for comments is Friday, June 28. The application will be reported to the planning committee in due course."
