Man shot by police in Hersden after 16-year-old daughter stabbed

A 16-year-old girl has regained consciousness three days after being stabbed - but her father is still fighting for his life after he was shot by police.

Marc Traylor was seriously wounded after firearms officers were called to the home in The Avenue, Hersden, late on Sunday night.

He is still described as being in a critical condition, while his daughter is gradually improving.

The drama unfolded at 11.20pm when local officers were called to the corner property on the junction with Elms Road.

Armed police and negotiators rushed to the scene and it was established the girl had been stabbed.

A police helicopter and dogs are also thought to have been involved in the incident.

Forensics officers have been seen going in and out of the property and two knives have been recovered from the scene.

Peter Johnson, 54, lives opposite.

He said: "I heard a bit of commotion so looked outside and saw this lady looking a bit upset.

"At that point about 10 police cars came down the road.

"They took a young girl out of the house and took her to an ambulance.

"Later on I heard on I heard two loud bangs and then they brought a bloke out on a stretcher.

"It's obviously a bit of a shock."

As is mandatory when someone is shot by police, the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which has someone at the scene.
