Video: See the huge
sandwich being sold off for charity.

There was no shortage of lunch on
offer in Canterbury city centre as a huge 100ft sandwich was
laid out on Sunday lunchtime.

Staff at Subway in St Peter’s
Street worked around the clock to put the mammoth Italian BMT
sandwich together for a special fundraising event in aid of Great
Ormond Street Hospital.

Stefan Scudder, of St Peter’s
Grove, came up with the idea after a close friend’s son, Leon,
died. He said: “Leon was born with a heart defect and was treated
at Great Ormond Street Hospital throughout his illness. The team
there did a fantastic job.

“In April, I took part in the
Bristol half-marathon to raise money for Great Ormond Street, but
sadly, Leon passed away in November.

“But we’re planning to continue our
fundraising efforts and this is just the latest idea.”

Passers-by could buy a slice of the
sandwich at £3 for 5cm or £5 for 10cm, with the money raised going
to the hospital.
