Human torch woman 'stable'

A WOMAN who doused herself in petrol and flicked a cigarette lighter to turn herself into a human fireball on a garage forecourt in Canterbury last week is still in a serious but stable condition.

The 38-year-old woman entered the forecourt of Canterbury Motor Company's Peugeot garage on Upper Bridge Street without a car but in a wheelchair.

She suddenly stood up and doused herself in petrol from a pump. She was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital with 40 to 50 per cent burns before being transferred to a specialist burns unit at East Grinstead in west Sussex.
