More than 400 people took a look at the stars for BBC Stargazing Live this week.
Locals joined members of the South East Astronomical Society at Canterbury's Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys to peer through telescopes on Tuesday.
Head of Physics, Dr Becky Parker hailed it a huge success despite problems with cloudy skies.
She said: “The BBC cameras pulled out last minute which was a real shame because they would have seen hundreds of people, young and old, showing an amazing passion for getting involved and understanding our universe.
“It was brilliant, there were loads of different people there, little ones, ages five to 75.
“It was a bit cloudy to start so I did a quick talk on 'Are we alone in the universe?' and just when I finished the cloud cleared and everyone rushed out and had a look at Jupiter. Everybody loved it.”
The event is the first this year in a series which happen the first Friday each month at the school. The next stargazing open evening will be on Friday, February 3, from 7.30pm to 10pm.
