After Monday's snow icy conditions presented a hazard for motorists going to work on Tuesday.

There was no more snow overnight in the district, but sub-zero temperatures led to difficult conditions in some areas.

A number of schools closed on Monday and on Tuesday St Anselm's Roman Catholic School in Canterbury and Ospringe Primary School are shut.

Canterbury Crown Court is also not sitting on Tuesday.

Southeastern is running a restricted service and passengers are advised to contact National Rail Enquiries 08457 48 49 50 before setting out.

Forecasters are predicting intermittent snow showers up until at least this weekend.

That is good news for Arctic foxes Alan and Fleck, who have been feeling right at home in the snow in their enclosure at Wildwood, Herne Common.

During the rest of the year the father and daughter find our climate a bit on the warm side - Arctic foxes can cope with temperatures as low as -50C.

'Grumpy Dad' from Faversham said it was: "More excuses for lazy teachers to stay in bed even though everyone else is expected and able to get to work."

He added: "It seems any excuse to close a school is sought rather than making the effort to keep it open. Not much of an example for our children are you? Your 'profession' is a public disgrace."

Among those who responded in defence of teachers was K. Shaw, also from Faversham, who said: "Get a life 'Grumpy Dad'. In the past I have been in school on a snowy day after it was closed due to the conditions waiting for irresponsible PARENTS to collect their children."
