The importance of looking after the coastline has been highlighted at a special day at Whitstable Harbour.

To mark Kent Coastal Week, marine conservation experts, the RSPB and wildlife groups delivered talks on how to enjoy and look after the environment.

Saturday’s harbour day attracted a steady stream of visitors, despite the drizzle, and included cooking demonstrations in the fish market while food stalls selling fresh Kent produce lined the harbour.

Full-size inflatable models of whales and dolphins gave children a chance to see just how big they are.

Canterbury City Council coastal warden Tom Hawkins said: "It was a great day and we were really pleased by the numbers of people that came along.

"It is really important to make people aware of how to look after our environment and the impact it has on everyone if we don’t.

"It is vital that we treat our coastlines with respect and I think by holding the Whitstable Harbour day, we managed to get the message across."
