An inquest into the death of knife victim Andrew Wilby has been opened this week.

Mr Wilby, 21, was killed by a single stab wound to the back in the early hours of June 20 at a flat in Tennyson House off Sturry Road, Canterbury.

Details released by east Kent coroner’s department revealed that Mr Wilby’s mother Anne, of St Stephen’s Road, formally identified her son’s body.

Meanwhile, a Facebook website in memory of the former Archbishop’s School has been created.

Ex-schoolmate Kirsty Henderson wrote: “I remember your first day at Archbishop’s well when all the girls were taking about the new boy who was really gorgeous.”

Sophie Sharratt said: “I didn’t realise how much of a friend you were to me and how much laughter you put into peoples lives. We will all miss you so much.”

And his cousin Roisin Wilby made this tribute: “You were unique, one in a million, mischievous, always the centre of attention, you were a beautiful person inside and out, who had grown into a wonderful young man.

“You had your whole life ahead of you and will be sorely missed by all those that knew you.

“I will forever treasure all the happy times we shared. I have soo many happy memories of you that always bring a smile and laughter to my life, you will always remain in my heart.”

Two women aged 22 and 23 were arrested following Mr Wilby’s death.

One was released without charge while the other is on bail until August 18.
Mr Wilby’s family have not announced a date for his funeral.
