Whitstable Town chairman Joe Brownett says the club will pursue a manager with Ryman League experience but will not break the bank to appoint a successor to Peter Nott.
The Oystermen are looking for their fifth manager in three years after Nott resigned on Sunday following a poor run of results.
Nott, who helped keep Whitstable up last season, had seen his side struggle after a bright start to the campaign and offered his resignation two weeks ago, which was rejected by the club’s board.
However, a 3-0 defeat to Ryman League, Division 1 South bottom side Crawley Down last Saturday was the final straw for Nott, who was described by Mr Brownett (pictured) as being at "his lowest ebb, ever" after the game.
The club have since received several CVs from interested managers but Mr Brownett and the Whitstable board are looking for a manager with experience having opted to promote former players Marc Seager, Mark Munday and Mark Lane in recent years, while Nott spent just eight months at Maidstone before taking over at the Belmont.
Mr Brownett (pictured) said: "The manager I am looking for is perhaps one with experience now. We have tried to promote from within the club in the past, like Mark Lane and Mark Munday, who were both ex-players but they hadn’t got any management experience.
"Perhaps the board will want someone who has won a league or been up there but we won’t rush into it because the club can’t afford it.
"We could go out and get someone with miles of experience but it would cost the club a lot of money."
