A BUS driver has scooped a massive £2.6 million pay-out on the National Lottery.

The jackpot prize has been won by a Canterbury city council tenant Lee Johnson who lives in Thanington with his wife Julia and family.

But it emerged on Wednesday that the couple’s joy had been overshadowed by the death of Mrs Johnson’s sister in the same week.

Mr Johnson, who handed in his notice at Stagecoach two days after his Lotto win, said: "Although we are very happy to have won the jackpot, the win is tinged with great sadness for our family."

A colleague at Canterbury bus station said: "I still think he’s getting over the shock of the win and doesn’t want any fuss. But he’s a nice bloke, so good luck to him."

Mr Johnson was not in when we called at his council house on Wednesday. But the family is known to be planning to use their winnings to move to a new home in the area.

He won £2,666,676 with his winning Lotto line of six numbers of 4, 9, 22, 24, 30, 41, which were drawn last Wednesday.
