Orlando Bloom ripped his coat pocket and elbowed a champagne bottle as he bumbled through his proposals to pop star Katy Perry, the singer has revealed.
Perry, whose hits include Firework and California Gurls, revealed to late night show host Jimmy Kimmel how the Canterbury-born actor and Pirates of the Caribbean star struggled to retrieve her engagement ring from his jacket.
The Lord of the Rings star took her on helicopter flight on Valentine's Day, and after she said yes, it landed at a surprise engagement party he had organised with friends and family.
She said: "We went to dinner and I thought we were going to see some afterwards, but we pulled up to a helicopter.
"We had champagne in the helicopter and the box was in his pocket, and he had written down everything he wanted to say in a note.
"He was going to pull (the ring box) out while I was reading it."
However, as Orlando tried to pull the ring box out of his pocket without her noticing, he ripped his jacket and knocked a champagne bottle with his elbow, almost blowing the intimate moment.
She added: "I'm still reading this note and he's pulling out this box that's too big for his coat pocket and his elbow goes into the champagne and I'm like, 'No, I'm just reading this note, I know you're not doing anything'.
"We landed on a rooftop and my whole family were there. He did so well."
Having previously been married to Australian model Miranda Kerr - with whom he has a son - Bloom will tie the knot for the second time.
The Hollywood star started dating the I Kissed A Girl singer in January 2016.
The couple went their separate ways the following year but reunited in December 2017 and have been together since.
Bloom, who has an honorary degree from the University of Kent, grew up in Canterbury and is regularly spotted in the county.
He is one of the 29 faces etched beneath a statue of Geoffrey Chaucer in Canterbury city centre.
His successful career has seen him cast in a number of blockbusters including Pirates of the Caribbean and Troy, while also appearing on Broadway and more recently in the West End.
Perry was previously married to comedian Russell Brand but divorced in 2013.
