After extending his contract as Kent head coach, Jimmy Adams said that the club will draw strength from the increased stability among players and staff.

The former West Indies skipper (pictured) steered Kent to the brink of LV= County Championship Division 2 promotion in his debut season after a hectic close-season which saw several new arrivals and departures.

After a quiet close season this year, Adams said: "Continuity certainly helps when you are planning for the long-term and that is what we’re doing here.

"We had plenty of new faces last year but this year we have all spent a year together and shared some experiences, both ups and downs.

"We’re pretty much the same team and it brings stability. There’s strength to be gained from that."

Kent’s only off-season signing is 22-year-old former Somerset all-rounder Calum Haggett, who spent the last two months of last season playing for Kent 2nds.

Adams said: "Calum is the only addition. If we find out later that we are short in a certain area, then we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

"A large part of what we’re trying to do here is to develop first-class players and we are keen to watch our talented young players grow and them getting the opportunity to play is part of that."

Meanwhile Adams said the question over who would be James Tredwell’s vice-captain was "not a priority" but would be decided in the coming weeks.
