Kent’s biggest outdoor activities superstore is set to re-launch on Saturday following a major re-fit to display its 250 clothing and equipment brands.
GO Outdoors in Wincheap, Canterbury, has undergone a six week refurbishment of its near 32,000 sq ft floor space.
It is among a raft of branches to benefit from £20 million in new investment. It signals a fresh era for the chain which is owned by JD Sports but went briefly into administration in 2020, forcing the closure of 67 branches.
But the business was saved by its former owners the following year who bought it back after a restructuring plan was approved.
GO Outdoors, in Maynard Road, specialises in outdoor adventure clothing and equipment including, trekking, camping, cycling, fishing, skiing, climbing and horse riding.
Among the new features of the revamped store will be an outside tent garden, a new 365 cycle concession and refurbished Fishing Republic and Naylors Lite concessions.
The store first opened in Maynard Road, Wincheap in 2014 and re-launched this week after the refit but has a special fanfare celebration planned on Saturday when Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Jean Butcher will cut the ribbon.
The branch employs a team of 38 staff, including a trained bike mechanic.
Manager, Alastair Hamilton said: “More and more people are reaping the benefits of the outdoors for their physical and mental well-being, and this expansion is the outcome of our success.”
To celebrate the store’s new look customers can benefit from 15% discount until November 20.
The nearby A28 Wincheap remains closed, causing congestion on the city’s surrounding roads, while utility firm SGN carries out repairs to a damaged network.
