Khan gets England call

Injured Kent fast bowler Amjad Khan has received a timely boost from the England selectors by being named in the 25-man Performance Squad for this summer's internationals.

The 28-year old seamer is resting and recuperating in his native Denmark, having been forced out of the West Indies tour with a knee injury.

He will have it re-assessed when he arrives back in England in a fortnight's time, but will be encouraged by the comments of chief selector Geoff Miller. He said:" Amjad impressed everyone when he joined in the latter part of the Caribbean tour, and it allows us to monitor his progress after injury."

Kent captain Rob Key is also included, with Yorkshire spinner Adil Rashid, the only player included not capped by England at test or one-day level.

Miller also left the door open to emeging youngsters like Jo Denly adding: We have decided to keep five places vacant in order to give ourselves greater flexibility, and reserve the right to add further players to the squad if performances in domestic cricket merit it."

Meanwhile Darren Stevens continued his good form with a hundred as Kent drew their two-day friendly against Surrey at Beckenham. He made 103 before retiring. Geraint Jones (46), Sam Northeast (43), and James Tredwell (41) were the other main scorers in a total of 321-6.

Tredwell earlier took 3-53 as Surrey made 405-7 with Alex Tudor (100 not out) and Usman Afzaal hitting 77.
