Kwan Browne is back at Canterbury Hockey Club, six years after leaving Polo Farm. The former creative playmaker is returning as new player-coach, and is getting down to work.

The 31-year old Trinidad and Tobago international, left in 2003 to join rivals East Grinstead, helping them gain promotion back to the Premier Division, before returning to the West Indies.

He worked as Youth Technical Director and Junior National Coach in his home island, as well as assisting with the senior side. He attended International Hockey Federation courses, before playing and coaching in Australia and New Zealand.

Browne said: "It’s like coming home and I can’t explain how excited I am about being back. I have already started preparing for the new season, but know it will be hard work.

"Canterbury is a nice family club with great facilities and should be playing at the top level. We want to be get back into the Premier Division, finish in the top three and then get into Europe."

Club chairman John Hinchliff said: "Everyone is delighted that Kwan has come back. We made an approach to him about it and the timing was perfect."
