Kwan Browne is staying on as player-coach at Canterbury Hockey Club as they aim for an immediate return to Premier Division hockey after relegation last season.

The new season will be the third that the Trinidad and Tobago international, pictured, will be at Polo Farm. He will be working alongside a new first- team captain following Matt Harper’s decision to stand down after four years.

The club, who held their annual meeting last week, are still to decide on Harper’s replacement.

Chairman John Hinchliff said: "We are close to making a decision and hope to announce it in the next couple of weeks.

"It’s an important decision and we have to get it right. It’s a crucial club role."

Steve Laslett has been named club captain, replacing Robbie Preston, who has moved to Herefordshire.
