Bus operator Stagecoach says its vehicles travelling from Canterbury to Herne Bay and Thanet were facing "heavy delays" due to congestion.
And officials from Kent County Council's Highways team are urging motorists to "use caution on the approach".
"There are reports of a collision on the A28 Sturry Hill near the junction with the A291," a KCC spokesman said.
"Emergency services are in attendance.
"Please use caution on the approach and expect delays in the area."
Stagecoach says the incident is holding up its Triangle and number 8 bus services.
The firm stresses the problem has been worsened by issues elsewhere in the city.
"Due to temporary lights not working correctly outside the law courts in Canterbury, a crash in Sturry and now an collision on the Triangle diversion, our Triangles are experiencing heavy delays this evening," a Stagecoach spokesman said.
"Our drivers are working hard to keep our services running this evening."
