POP legend Sir Elton John will be appearing in concert in Kent next summer, it has been revealed.
Sir Elton will be on stage at the headquarters of Kent County Cricket Club at the St Lawrence ground at Canterbury on Saturday, June 3. There is expected to be a capacity crowd of around 22,000. It's part of a month-long nationwide tour.
The show is set to put the county cricket club's ground on the map as a major concert venue.
The club is poised to earn around £40,000 from the event, and if it proves a sell-out then a second date has already been pencilled in for the following day.
Kent’s commercial and operations director John Fordham said: “This is a major step forward for the club. We are delighted to have attracted one of the biggest names in show business, and if we host a successful concert, then the opportunity will be there to become an accepted venue, with the possibility of hosting at least one a year.”
Sir Elton will be on stage for more than two hours performing many of his classic songs from over three decades as one of the country’s leading recording artists, as well as tracks from his latest album Peachtree Road.
Details regarding support acts will be announced later. The club and Sir Elton’s tour management company Marshall Arts are still in talks with Canterbury City Council and Kent Police about traffic and other issues.
The concert won’t affect the club’s cricket commitments as the county will be involved in Tunbridge Wells Festival Week.
Concert tickets, priced at £60, £40 and £35, will be available from Monday from www.seetickets.com, ticketmaster.co.uk, or by phoning 0870 1612123, 0870 4445556 or 0871 2302617, limited to six per customer.
