A YEAR almost to the day after he helped launch the £50million Save Canterbury Cathedral appeal, Roy Hattersley returned for a progress report.

Lord Hattersley, writer and former deputy leader of the Labour party, spent two hours at the Cathedral witnessing some of the transformations taking place.

"It has been a good year and a lot of marvellous work has been done," he said.

The appeal now stands at just under £7million.

Lord Hattersley said it was an extraordinary figure to have raised in a year: "But it won’t be a satisfactory figure until it’s £50million," he said.
