The Faversham Society has won a £238,700 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore 12 Preston Street which forms part of the Fleur de Lis Centre.
Work on the grade two listed building will complete the Society’s vision for the heritage centre which has already resulted in numbers 10,11 and 13 restored with lottery grants.
Now craftsmen will repair and conserve the historic features of the property and complete its integration with the adjoining listed buildings.
Expected to take three years, the restoration scheme will include a new distinctive entrance to give the museum a more prominent presence in the town.
It will also undergo a complete refit and re-organisation of the interior to provide a more flexible reception area, collections and storage space and a room for dedicated outreach and research activities.
Access to the upper floors will also be improved, which in turn will enable the development of the loans collection for more outreach work.
