A WOMAN and child narrowly escaped serious injury when a lorry ripped scaffolding from the front of two shops and dragged it along a road.

Loose poles smashed the front window of PH Academy hair salon in The Borough, Canterbury, and damaged brick work there and at Westgate Games next door on Tuesday.

One customer ran from the salon fearing the building would collapse as staff raced to stop the driver.

Salon manager Marcus George said: “There was a crash and a scraping sound and the poles came down into our window.

“A woman and child walked under the scaffolding just before it happened.”
