ESSENTIAL work to the Great Stour bridge on the Canterbury bypass at Wincheap will mean the closure of the A2 overnight on two Sundays, January 20 and 27. Parapet works to the bridge, starting next Monday, January 14, will affect a kilometre section of both carriageways with lane closures during off-peak times.

It means that during the complete road closure on the Sunday nights, coastbound traffic will be diverted off the A2 at Harbledown and re-routed through the city and out along the New Dover Road. The reverse route will apply for Brenley Corner bound traffic.

The £50,000 scheme is designed to modernise the parapets for greater safety. The work is due to be completed by mid-February.
