Patrick McDermott, from London, charged with robbing Hadfields Jewellers in Castle Street in Canterbury

A man has been charged with robbery after £60,000 worth of jewellery was reported stolen from a city shop.

Patrick McDermott was arrested in London on Friday (January 25) following the incident at Hadfields Jewellers in Castle Street, Canterbury, on Wednesday, December 19, in which glass was left strewn across the floor.

The 31-year-old has been charged with robbery and driving while disqualified.

Mr McDermott, from Brixton in London, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday, February 22.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve East said: “We continue to carry out enquiries into the robbery to identify a second suspect.

"We are still appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.”
