Man in court after pink gin and Grey Goose vodka stolen from Waitrose in Canterbury

A suspected shoplifter accused of stealing bottles of pink gin and Grey Goose vodka from a branch of Waitrose is to appear in court.

Leeroy Washington, 44, is charged with a string of offences that reportedly took place across Canterbury and Folkestone.

Washington, of no fixed address, was charged last Thursday with stealing one bottle of pink gin from Waitrose & Partners in Canterbury on February 7, and with stealing four bottles more bottles of the trendy beverage from the same supermarket the following day.

He is also accused of stealing two bottles of Grey Goose vodka from the store on February 17, as well as cider from a city branch of Sainsbury’s February 20, and a speaker and toiletries from another Sainsbury’s store in Folkestone on February 26.

On Friday, he was further charged with stealing six bottles of alcohol from Marks & Spencer on October 1, as well as with assaulting a police officer on October 10, causing criminal damage to a shop window on February 19, and with the theft of earrings from Claire’s Accessories on February 7.

All these incidents reportedly took place in Canterbury.

Mr Washington appeared at Canterbury Magistrates’ Court on February 29, where he was remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Thanet Magistrates’ Court on March 12.
