Man to appear in court after homes evacuated amid bomb scare in North View in Hersden near Canterbury

A man is set to appear in court today after homes were evacuated amid a bomb scare in a residential street.

Police and the bomb squad were scrambled to North View in Hersden, near Canterbury off the A28, on Monday afternoon after a report of a suspicious package.

The package was removed from the scene and is being examined as part of an ongoing investigation.

It is understood counter-terror police are not involved in this probe.

This morning, a police spokesman confirmed Andrew King has been charged with placing an article with the intention of causing fear that it would explode, possession of a knife and possession of cannabis.

The 37-year-old, of North View, Hersden, is due to appear before Margate Magistrates' Court today.

Pictures and video captured at the scene by KentOnline showed an Army explosive expert with a specialist bomb disposal robot in the back of a vehicle.
