POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted sexual assault on a woman in the Christchurch area of Canterbury.

The incident happened on Tuesday at around 6pm. The suspect is described as quite tall, of slim build, with short dark hair and facial stubble.

He spoke with an accent and was wearing an unzipped hooded top.
