Planners have agreed to move Canterbury market off St George's Street and into Iron Bar Lane.
The decision came despite opposition from stallholders who claim it will ruin their business and Westgate ward councillors who object to it for reasons of safety and access to neighbouring shops.
Council chiefs want to move the market to allow St George's Street to be refurbished.
The council has not yet set a date for the move but once it does go Iron Bar Lane and Link Lane up to 49 stalls will operate.
