Police hope to jog the public's memory about a violent assault on a man in Canterbury last month.

A 20-year-old was punched to the floor before being kicked and stamped on the head until he passed out by a group of five teenage boys.

He had been on a night out with friends before the attack outside a Mercery Lane takeaway shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 7.

The attack began as the victim stepped following an altercation between the group and one of his friends, who kicked him without provocation.

After he passed out, the group left him on the pavement and walked off.

One of the teenagers is described as white, aged 17 to 18, with a skinny build and no taller than 5ft 6ins. He had shaven black hair.

The victim was treated at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for injuries to his neck and head.

He was released with a sprained neck and bruising and swelling to his face and head.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information is asked to call officers on 01843 222197 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
