Red-faced Monopoly bosses have taken a chance on an apology - after wrongly including a picture of Rochester Castle in the centre of a board lauding the landmarks of Canterbury!

Games maker Winning Moves UK were hoping to bank a profit after launching the version of the game based on the Kent city last month.

It was after the choice of destination was put to the vote.

But eagle-eyed games fans spotted the board included a picture of Rochester Castle - sited many miles away from the city made famous by Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

Now bosses have returned to the scene of their 'crime', held their hands up and apologised for the gaffe.

Winning Moves boss Robert Osborne brought along a huge replica of the board to a re-launch of the game at the Marlowe Theatre today.

The first board - now defunct - has been removed from the shelves and from online sites.

Mr Osborne said: "It's the very least we can do. Our apologies to everyone in Canterbury - AND Rochester.

"It was an agency picture, but we wholly take the blame."

In the game 22 Canterbury sites replace the famous Monopoly streets, with Canterbury Cathedral landing the top Mayfair spot.
