The Monopoly man and friends have passed go for the first board game pub crawl in Canterbury today.

Drinks are scheduled in 26 pubs as players take a chance card and hope to sup their way to glory while avoiding stoppages at waterworks.

The crawl marks the 80th anniversary since Monopoly first went on sale.

Organiser Jamie Price was dressed as the Monopoly man and said it was “a nice way to celebrate” his 38th birthday.

He said: “As soon as I found out that the monopoly board came out in my hometown I had to come back and it’s my birthday today so it’s a nice way to celebrate.”

Jamie used to live in The Crescent in Chartham but relocated to Hackney in East London some years ago.

He added: “The board is planned out with pubs I used to visit before I moved away to London and it’s nice to be back with friends.

“The monopoly pub crawl has turned into quite a phenomena in London and I have done it a few times.

“I enjoyed The Unicorn pub earlier - it’s good to be in the old pubs.

“And the last pub we are going to is The Parrot, I remember it as Simple Simon’s and that’s a really nice one.

“The idea came from a late night conversation with a friend about a month ago - we were talking about doing another pub crawl and I happened to find on the Internet that the Canterbury board has just been launched.

“Hopefully I’ll be standing by the end of it, otherwise I have the cane prop me up!”

The crawl began at 11am at the Bishops Finger and will pass through the Run Of The Mill, The Thomas Ingoldsby - JD Wetherspoon and The Bat & Ball among others.
