After recording a debut single with top producer Hugh Jones of Echo and The Bunnymen fame, Canterbury’s Motion Picture Soundtrack are on a roll.
The emerging rock outfit have been working hard on their material are continuing a residency in their home city at Alberry’s during March.
Lead singer Alastair Blackwood’s soaring vocals allied to the band’s epic sound has won them plenty of fans at venues across the county.
Their bold music has been likened to the Verve and is attracting strong music industry interest. Not ones to be complacent, they are setting their sights on landing a deal this year.
Speaking on the recording of their single, So Beautiful, Alastair said: “It was quite surreal, we did some pre-recording work and have been in the studio before. Hugh Jones was relentless, but it was amazing and are pleased with the results.”
The group, which gained its name from their frontman’s love of dramatic film, was formed in 2002 by Alastair,22, and his drummer brother Graeme,20.
Recruiting guitarist Nick Watts, 22, and bass-man Will Hasler along the way, they have the kind of close-knit spirit which will carry them far.
They are keenly awaiting their residency dates which are on March 7 and 21. The final show will see the launch of their limited edition CD.
“We deliberately went for a big sound, when I write something it has to have emotion, if not then I’ll go back to it until it does.”
