Mystery of cyclist found unconscious in road

A 21-year-old pedal cyclist is in intensive care in hospital after being found unconscious at the side of the road.

A member of the public discovered the cyclist lying injured in St Stephen’s Hill, Canterbury. He had sustained serious head injuries.

It is not yet known whether any other vehicle was involved and police are seeking witnesses who may be able to provide information about the incident which happened late on Saturday nigfht or in the early hours of Sunday morning.

St Stephen’s Hill was closed until 4am while the Serious Collision Investigation Unit undertook scene examinations.

Although there was initially concern, the man’s condition has improved and he has regained consciousness. But he is still confused about what happened to him. Police say he is a student from Wiltshire.
