A man wept in court after he admitted wielding a lump of wood while naked and under the influence of drink and drugs.
Margate Magistrates’ Court heard how Jonathan Fuller had been drinking all day when he returned to his bedsit in Merchants Way, Canterbury, at just after midnight on May 31.
The 35-year-old became abusive, smashing a hole in the bathroom door and frightening his housemate, who hid in her room.
Prosecuting, Kelly Williams told the court: “He banged on his housemate’s door. He had a lump of wood and was swinging it around the garden.
“All of this was done while he was naked. He was then arrested at 10.30am.”
Defending, Ian Bond said Fuller - who has a history of addiction - had been working hard to get back on track.
He said: “This is an unfortunate incident which my client accepts. He has been living there for some time.
“He remembers going out drinking and taking half an ecstasy tablet. After that he remembers nothing.
“He is someone who has suffered with addiction before and is currently receiving help from Turning Point. He continues to live at the property.”
Crying in the dock, Fuller told the court it was completely out of character.
He said: “I get on with all of my housemates. That’s why I am crying. They are my family. I just blacked out.”
Fuller admitted criminal damage and using threatening language to cause alarm.
District Judge Justin Barron told him: “I can see this is an isolated incident and you have been trying to keep out of trouble - that’s why I am giving you a conditional discharge.”
Fuller is already paying Canterbury Link Housing £10 a week to cover the damage he caused to property.
He was ordered to pay £85 court costs.
