A new £100,000 seating area has been officially unveiled in Whitstable Harbour.
The space - known as Dead Man’s Corner – was revealed to bustling crowds on Friday afternoon.
It comprises wooden decking surrounded by a 22-metre long wall made from steel mesh baskets filled with pebbles.
A number of community workshops were held to make the pebbles, with more than 1,200 believed to have taken part.
The opening comes almost three years after the city council struck a deal with the Whitstable Improvement Trust to enhance that part of the harbour.
Both organisations have stumped up a quarter of the cash, with a National Lottery grant covering the remaining £50,000.
Roger Seijo – a director of the Whitstable Improvement Trust – is the architect behind the design.
Speaking at the opening, he said: “It’s a space where people can come and sit for free and watch harbour life go by.
“Everywhere else in the arbour you have to buy a coffee or a whelk to sit down, so this is great."
