Wanted: boys aged seven or eight who enjoy singing.

The choir of Canterbury Cathedral is holding voice trials on Saturday, November 8.

Six new choristers were admitted on Sunday by the Dean of Canterbury, the Very Rev Robert Willis.

There are 18 boy choristers in the choir, plus 12 men, known as lay clerks. The boys sing evensong six times each week, as well as the main Communion service on Sunday mornings.

They are all pupils of St Edmund’s School in Canterbury and, as well as carrying out a full day’s study at school, they have choir rehearsals and music practice. Each boy learns at least two instruments.

Voice trials for next year’s choir will be held on Saturday, November 8 and any parent or boy is welcome to contact David Flood to discuss whether they may be suitable by ringing 01227 865242 or email davidf@canterbury-cathedral.org.

Any boy who is seven or eight and who enjoys singing can be considered and it is not necessary to have had any musical training. The 28 choristers receive substantial scholarships from the Cathedral.
