Colin the lurcher recovers after his operation following an accident on the A2 at Barham this month.
by Gerry Warren
The plight of Colin the lurcher-cross featured on our website last week has prompted an outpouring of sympathy and support from readers.
Apparently abandoned by his owner, he was found badly injured in the snow beside the A2 at Barham after being hit by a car which failed to stop.
But animal lovers have now chipped in to pay for his treatment and he has a new foster family which is hoped will become permanent.
The young lurcher saluki cross suffered a broken hip which required surgery costing £800.
But staff at Bourne Veterinary practice at Bekebourne say they were inundated with donations from readers to help pay for his treatment.
He has recovered well and put on 2kg in weight during the last week and on Sunday left for his new foster home.
Rachel McMeeking, one of the vets at Bourne Veterinary Practice said: “We have had an amazing response to the article in the Kentish Gazette last week and on the website with dozens of calls from concerned people wanting to wish Colin a speedy recovery.
“We have heard from people who were willing to give Colin a home, others giving generous cash donations and even dog biscuits.
“We would like to thank everyone for their incredible kindness. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery and have now nearly covered the cost of his treatment.
She added: “Everyone at Bourne vet practice was very sad to see him go because he is such a lovely dog.”
